William R. Proctor Inc.

William R. Proctor was born in Lunenburg in 1929. In the spring of 1956 he started his excavating business with a 1948 Ford truck and a new Ford tractor purchased at Willard’s in Leominster. He incorporated in 1962 and the business became William R. Proctor Inc. Bea Proctor, Bill’s wife, helped to run the business as the bookkeeper.

During the 1960’s William R. Proctor Inc. did general excavating, including installation of septic systems and building roads, especially around the Hickory Hills Lake area. In the 1970’s and 1980’s Bill’s sons Bill Jr. and Dan joined the business – now in it’s second generation. They specialized in septic system installation but also earned a reputation as builders of ponds. They built over a dozen ponds, mostly in Lunenburg, including the largest pond at Lahti’s Tree Farm. This pond is over six acres in size.

In 1991 the Proctor’s opened a retail store on Rte. 13 in the Whalom District of Lunenburg. Our 4+ acre retail yard caters to homeowners, landscapers and masons alike. All items are available for pick up or delivery. We carry a full line of landscape supplies including bark mulch, screened loam, stone, granite and Pavers & Stone Walls by Ideal®. Additionally, Proctor Landscape & Masonry Supply carries brick, masonry supplies and chimney components. Customers like to visit our fish ponds and check out the ever changing landscape displays.

Nearly 60 years later, Dan Proctor continues the tradition. He is still installing septic systems and selling high quality screened farm loam and landscape products to area homeowners. We would like to thank everybody that has been part of our first 60 years and look forward to meeting and working with those same customers and many more for years to come!
